Through an F1 mosaic forward genetic screen on the Drosophila 2R chromosome, we identified alleles of sequoia, a gene that had been previously linked to neuronal morphogenesis. We showed that this gene regulates cell fate determination in the mechanosensory organs of the fly by working in concert with other transcription factors.
